As you may know, it is my goal to offer my patients the best in vision correction technology.  I am pleased to say we are at it again, and I am very excited to announce that Graystone iLASIK will be offering the new RAINDROP® Near Vision Inlay.  The Raindrop is for patients with presbyopia, who want to toss their reading glasses for good!  The FDA has recently approved RAINDROP®, by ReVision Optics, Inc., a new corneal inlay that has been successfully used outside the United States for years.

The RAINDROP® Near Vision Inlay is a transparent curved disc that maximizes light transmission in the eye.  It is made from a hydrogel, a gel-like material that is 80% water; and has similar light bending properties to that of the cornea (the clear front part of the eye).   The RAINDROP® improves near vision by reshaping the central region of the cornea, increasing the steepness in the center and tapering off at the out edge.

The RAINDROP® is placed in the non-dominant eye, after creating a flap in the cornea with a blade-free laser (similar to that of iLASIK).  The inlay is less than 1/10th of an inch in size, only 2 mm in diameter, and smaller than the eye of a needle.  This inlay is removable and is not visible to the naked eye.

Good candidates for the RAINDROP® are between 41-65, are unable to focus clearly on near objects or small print, but still have good distance vision without any changes 12 months prior to consultation.  These candidates would need reading glasses with +1.50 to +2.50 diopters of power, have healthy eye history, and have not had any previous eye surgeries.

If you are interested in learning more about RAINDROP® or to see if you may be a candidate, please call our Refractive Coordinator, Adair Bowman and schedule your complimentary consultation.  You can reach her at 828-304-6611.  To learn more about the inlay you can visit www.raindropinlay.com.

Hope to see you for a consultation real soon!

Best Regards,
